Yesterday I was reading Kaleidoscope, an in-flight magazine produced by LOT Polish Airlines. I was on a flight from Chicago to Warsaw. After the lady in front of me decided to push her seat back to nap, my ability to effectively work on my laptop was over. So, I began to read – beginning with a browsing of the material in the seat pouch in front of me.
Being August and the month of the Olympics, the magazine had some interesting feature articles. The one that most captured my attention was an article written on Greece, the mother of the Olympic Games. It described modern Greece in many ways, including its architecture, diverse landscapes, open markets, and traditional cuisine. The article spoke of the culture and people saying, “They don’t worry about tomorrow and they love to have fun. The Greek way of living hasn’t changed much over the centuries. The family is the foundation, which is preserved with regular visits, conversations and dining. This is a very sociable nation, in Athens they behave as if they lived in a small town on an island – they put their chairs out on the street in front of their houses and sit and chat all day long.” – p12
Then I read a stunning statement: “More than 90% of Greeks declare that they believe in God and attend services. The Greek national identity has survived (the centuries) thanks to religion, much like our own experience during the (Soviet) partitioning in Poland.” – p12
Did you catch that thought? “National identity has survived thanks to religion.”
This is one of the reasons for RENEWANATION! As a nation we will never be greater than our faith in God. That is why we must make every effort to ‘give every child a Christian world view’.
Thanks for being a part of this great cause!
